ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz
One of our challenges with the move is being back in an apartment where we share walls with neighbors. Our building is 70 years old with really squeaky wood floors and we have a nocturnal upstairs neighbor. I can sleep through most of the activity but Eric wakes with every footstep - especially when our neighbor is doing laps around the room above our bedroom. We've tried leaving a fan on to create white noise and it does help muffle the sounds but between me waking every few hours to use the bathroom and our neighbor, Eric is not sleeping so well. I've thought about slipping Nyquil into his dinner drink but I'd like something a little less habit forming. So I'm putting a call out for help - any suggestions?

I love my ear plugs. I've got a stash of those orange foamy earplugs on the dresser next to my bed. I've gotten quite good at being half-awake and reaching over to just the right place to find them.
I use them whenever my to-be-unnamed husband gets into one of his snoring fits (which I swear have been getting more frequent this week). They're a lifesaver... or a sleep-saver as the case may be.
Give it a try -- at worse, you're out $3, at best -- Eric gets a lovely night's sleep.
He is just being trained for when the baby comes. He won't realize how much sleep he isn't getting once the baby is here. How are thing with you and the baby? Gretchen wishes she could walk Molly too!
I feel for the both of you! We had an apartment stint while waiting for our house...I guess with time you get used to it. The ear plugs is a good idea too. Why is your neighbor doing laps upstairs?? Banging on the walls might work too :)
I agree with Cami. Eric this is really a blessing in disguise to prepare you for the lack of sleep you will soon have. It is much sweeter being woken up by a sweet baby than a rowdy neighbor though.
You need a noise maker. You can set it to waves or rain. We have one that we use in Ian's room every nap time. It drowns out all sounds so he sleeps well. We didn't need one for Mae because she was the first, but with Ian it has been a lifesaver (though now he is a little dependant). We dont' leave home without it if we will be staying in a hotel.
PS. Post some pictures of you two. You better get better at it once the baby comes!
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll keep you posted.
